My emotions and ties were so strong with my birth family until my mother died. I couldn’t go when my mother passed away because of COVID lockdowns. When I finally able to travel and reunite with my father and my brother, it ended up very differently. My father gave away every last penny including our home ( the one that I and my brother grew up) to my brother. They kept my mother’s jewelry for me. This created so much rift as they didn’t discuss what my father owned and what was given to my brother. It was such an emotional thing and not just about properties for what they are worth. The deep seated favoritism towards son, patriarchy all come to the fore and my relationship with my brother turned sour.
